WLG Matchplay Invitational

Basic Information
  • 16-player single elimination matchplay tournament
    • 12 automatic seeds according to WL Ranking (rank 1-12)
    • Last 4 seeds determined by an 18-hole qualifier for next 8 players in WL Ranking (rank 13-20)
  • Four rounds of match play
    • Each round held at different course (TBD)
    • 18-hole round starting at hole #1
    • Players will not be re-seeded after each round



Invitation to Tournament - Saturday, November 29th
  • Invitation to tournament will be based on WL rank as of the Week 6 release on November 30th
  • Invitations will be sent out to ranks 1-20 (by e-mail) in the WL rankings on Sunday, November 30th, and will have 48 hours to accept or decline the invitation.
  • If an invitation is declined, everyone below that seed automatically moves up. For example if the 5th seed declines the invitation, the 13th seed will no longer have to play in the qualifier and an invitation will be extended to the 21st seed to the qualifying tournament


Qualifying Tournament - Monday, December 1st
  • An 18-hole tournament for the 8 lowest seeds of the 20 invited to the tournament
  • The top 4 in this tournament will qualify for the Matchplay Tournament


Matchplay Tournament
  • 12 automatic seeds and 4 qualifiers (Q1=13th seed, Q2=14th seed, etc.) will be seeded and matched against each other (1vs16, 2vs15,... , 8vs9)

There will be an alternate tournament for those who don't qualify for this.

I thought about expanding this to a 32-player tournament but I feel the logistics of running and scheduling might be a bit much right now. Maybe next season I will expand the field depending on how the 16-player tournament goes.

There will be more specifics about this tournament in the coming week.
